Στουτγκάρδη

Η Στουτγκάρδη είναι ίσως η πιο αδικημένη γερμανική πόλη. Προσελκύει ελάχιστους τουρίστες, ενώ κατά τη γνώμη μου είναι η πιο όμορφη πόλη της Γερμανίας, όχι τόσο λόγω αξιοθεάτων, όσο λόγω θέσης. Βρίσκεται ανάμεσα σε καταπράσινους λόφους που προσφέρουν πολύ ωραία θέα. Θα έλεγε κανείς ότι πρόκειται για δάσος με κάποια υποψία πόλης:

Stuttgart is perhaps the most underrated German city. It attracts very few tourists, although, in my opinion, it is the most beautiful city in Germany, not so much due to tourist attractions, as due to its location. It is situated among green hills that offer spectacular views. One might say that it is a forest with some traces of a city:

Stuttgart ist vielleicht die am meisten unterschätzte Stadt Deutschlands. Es zieht nur sehr wenige Touristen an, obwohl es meiner Meinung nach die schönste Stadt Deutschlands ist, nicht so sehr wegen Sehenswürdigkeiten, als aufgrund seiner Lage. Es liegt inmitten grüner Hügel, die spektakuläre Ausblicke bieten. Man könnte sagen, dass es ein Wald mit einigen Spuren von einer Stadt ist:

Όπως και οι περισσότερες πόλεις της Γερμανίας, καταστράφηκε στο δεύτερο παγκόσμιο πόλεμο. Όταν ανακατασκευάστηκε αποφάσισαν να φτιάξουν το κέντρο εντελώς μοντέρνο, αγνοώντας το πώς ήταν προπολεμικά. Το μόνο σημαντικό ιστορικό κτίριο που έμεινε είναι το κάστρο:
Like most cities in Germany, it was destroyed in World War II. During reconstruction, it was decided to build the city center in a completely modern way, ignoring what it looked like before the war. The only important historic building left is the castle:
Wie die meisten Städte Deutschlands, war es im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört. Beim Wiederaufbau wurde beschlossen, die Innenstadt ganz modern zu bauen und nicht zu berücksichtigen, wie es vor dem Krieg aussah. Das Neue Schloss ist das einzige wichtige übrig gebliebene historische Gebäude:










Κατά τα λοιπά το κέντρο αποτελείται από άχρωμα, λειτουργικά όμως, κτίρια. Όποιος νομίζει ότι στην Ελλάδα έχουμε το μονοπώλιο των υπαίθριων καφετεριών και εστιατορίων θα εκπλαγεί. Οι πολύ πλατιοί πεζόδρομοι της Στουτγκάρδης φιλοξενούν εκατοντάδες τραπεζοκαθίσματα.
Otherwise, the center consists of non-descript, albeit functional, buildings. Whoever thinks that we monopolize outdoor cafes and restaurants in Greece will be surprised. The very wide pedestrian streets in Stuttgart host hundreds of tables and chairs.
Ansonsten besteht das Zentrum aus farblosen, wenn auch funktionale, Gebäuden. Wer denkt, dass wir in Griechenland Straßencafés und -restaurants monopolisieren, wird überrascht sein. Die sehr große Fußgängerzone in Stuttgart verfügt über Hunderte von Tischen und Stühlen.












Και λίγα λόγια για το θαυμάσιο σύστημα συγκοινωνιών της πόλης. Όπως και πολλές άλλες γερμανικές πόλεις, διαθέτει προαστιακό σιδηρόδρομο και μεικτό σύστημα τραμ-μετρό. Ο πρώτος (S-bahn) ενώνει τη Στουτγκάρδη με τα προάστια αλλά και το αεροδρόμιο, έχει υπόγειους σταθμούς σε κομβικά σημεία στο κέντρο, αλλά το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της διαδρομής του είναι υπέργειο και προσφέρει θαυμάσια θέα στα καταπράσινα προάστια της πόλης.
A few words about the excellent transport system of the city. Like many other German cities, Stuttgart boasts a suburban railway and a mixed tram-metro system The former (S-bahn) connects Stuttgart with the suburbs and the airport and has underground stations at key points in the center, but most of the route is above ground offering superb views to the lush suburbs of the city.
Ein paar Worte über das ausgezeichnete Verkehrssystem der Stadt. Wie viele andere deutsche Städte, verfügt Stuttgart über eine S-Bahn und ein gemischtes Straßenbahn-U-Bahn-System. Das erste (S-Bahn) verbindet Stuttgart mit den Vororten und dem Flughafen und hat U-Bahnhöfen an zentralen Punkten im Stadtzentrum, aber der größte Teil der Strecke ist oberirdisch und bietet einen herrlichen Blick auf den grünen Vororten der Stadt.

Το τραμ-μετρό, που οι ίδιοι το ονομάζουν σκέτο μετρό (U-bahn), καλύπτει διαδρομή 116 χιλιομέτρων από τα οποία τα 21 είναι υπόγεια. Στα τμήματα όπου είναι υπέργειο δεν έχει καμία σχέση με το τραμ όπως το ξέρουμε. Αναπτύσσει μεγάλες ταχύτητες, έχει εντυπωσιακή επιτάχυνση ακόμα και στις ανηφόρες (που είναι πάμπολλες) και στέκονται όλοι προσοχή μπροστά του (= έχει προτεραιότητα από τα αυτοκίνητα και τους πεζούς).
The tram-metro, called just metro (U-bahn) by the locals, covers a 116 km route, 21 kms of which are underground. In sections where it is at-grade, it has nothing to do with the tram, as we know it in Athens. It develops a high speed, it has an impressive acceleration, even when moving up the hills (which are numerous) and everybody stands still when it drives by (= it takes precedence over cars and pedestrians).
Die Stadtbahn, von den Einheimischen einfach U-Bahn genannt, umfasst eine 116 km lange Strecke, 21 km davon laufen unterirdisch. In den Abschnitten, wo sie oberirdisch läuft, hat sie nichts mit der Straßenbahn zu tun, wie wir sie in Athen kennen. Sie entwickelt eine hohe Geschwindigkeit, hat eine beeindruckende Beschleunigung, auch wenn sie bergauf fährt (auf die zahlreichen Steigungen) und jeder steht still vor der U-Bahn (= sie hat Vorrang vor Autos und Fußgänger).

Η κοντινή πόλη Esslingen αποζημιώνει για την έλλειψη ιστορικού κέντρου της Στουτγκάρδης. Η μέρα ήταν βροχερή, αλλά άξιζε τον κόπο που έγινα μούσκεμα:
The nearby town of Esslingen compensates for the lack of a historical center in Stuttgart. That day was rainy, but it was worth it getting soaked:

Νυρεμβέργη

Και η Νυρεμβέργη καταστράφηκε στο ΒΠΠ, όμως το ιστορικό της κέντρο ανακατασκευάστηκε με τρόπο ώστε να πλησιάζει την προπολεμική του μορφή. Περιβάλλεται από μια τάφρο που είχε κατασκευαστεί για αμυντικούς σκοπούς.

Nuremberg was also destroyed in World War II, but its historical center was rebuilt in a way that approximates its pre-war form. It is surrounded by a moat that was built for defense purposes.
